Maui and Molokai Day 3: just hanging out

Before I forget  we missed the previous evening's sunset since we went to Wailuku.  But as we parked the car back at the condo the full moon was rising over Haleakela.  Gorgeous!

We were up early which is ok.  I like the morning quiet.  I drove to sugar beach bakery for some malasadas.  It was nice to see the town waking up; people were setting up poles for fishing, walking their dogs and traffic was light.  KPOA was on the radio and I was surprised to hear a song by Patrick Landeza. He's from the SF Bay area  and I think the only Hano Hano award winner from the mainland.  Check him out.  J wanted to eat at swap meet so I didn't get him any Malasadas.  His loss!

The kid wasn't interested in the swap meet so he stayed home.  As we drove up 311 there was some light rain and as we got into Kahului there was a bit of rainbow.  We paid our $1 entrance fee for two and wandered around.  J got coffee and some scones.  There really wasn't much that caught my eye this time.  Maybe some of the vendors had gone up to Lahaina for the Kamehameha parade stuff.  There was tons of jewelry (I mostly make my own), lots of tshirts, and other clothing,  produce, tchotchkes mostly from elsewhere.  The tropical flowers make me drool though!  I didn't buy, just took photos.

We took the way home through Wailuku.  I like the trees over the road.

After a fair amount of laziness (and getting frustrated at blogger from the previous post) we packed up for the beach.  We went to Keawakupu, parking at the south end by Wailea. We got an open spot in the parking lot!  Clean living, as my dad says.  I got in the water and just soaked for a long time.  I could almost stay in there for ever!  Of course I would be more than happy to live in one of the houses on this beach!

Love these colors!

J did some snorkeling around the lava outcrop.  R did the same and took the camera.  He found the end of an eel.

Lunch was Huli Huli chicken from the green church. It was tasty and was gone quickly.

I took R shopping to find a last minute Father Day gift.  Shopping is not his thing and he didn't have an idea what to get. We went to the Pi'ilani Village Shopping Center.  We started at Hilo Hattie (the usual schlock), then Crazy Shirts (nice but overpriced IMO but they have an "outlet area" in the store.  I may go back.)  The last hope was Tropix (Maui Built) and finally he picked out a decent Tshirt there.  No one can have too many Hawaiian tshirts!  We wrapped up the shirt in their bag and used the Hilo Hattie shell lei as a ribbon.

I didn't feel like much for dinner after the chicken but the guys did.  It was nearing sunset time so I took one quickie photo from the lanai.

One negative being in N. Kihei is that the sunset on the horizon is blocked. I got some glimpses while driving south to dinner.  We went to Da Kitchen and shared 2 plates between us and it was just right since they give generous servings.   The Kalua pork tasted so good.  I can never get mine to get that flavor. J ordered fish tempura - 3 large chunks of meat. We left with full bellies - too much for dessert!

That's all for day 3.  Beware of a ton of pictures next time from our Seafire Molokini tour!
