Maui and Molokai Day 12: not everyday can be perfect

SThe kid lost his lunch the day before but scarfed down dinner just fine....until the middle of the night.  I called the advice nurse at our pediatrician in the morning.  She said to keep him drinking small sips at a time and wait to eat later on small bland foods. As long as everything was moving through we were ok.  And it was by the end of the day.

But we had reserved a trip with Captain Steve's snorkel tour to Lanai.  I wasn't about to leave R by himself for five hours at this point so I dropped J off at Mala Wharf.  I'll have to catch it next time.

R and I hung out at the condo for most of the morning.  I caught up on some reading and watched what was happening in the park next door.  Dog walkers, kids and a lot of people exercising in various ways.

I was sooooo itchy to get into the ocean!  Later in the morning  R felt he was ok with a quick beach trip.  Kahekili was only 5 minutes away and it has facilities. My skinny kid felt too cold in the water so he just basked in the sun, sand and salt air.  That's got to make anyone feel better.

I took a not too long snorkel first heading north to the Westin and then let the current float me back to the south.  It felt good but not too much new except I saw a baby Humu!  It must have been an inch or so, mostly white but it had the usual markings.  It tried to get a picture but I'll have to play with the photo on my laptop to see if I can find it. iPad can do only so much.  Here are some photos of the regulars

Edit:  adding photos of baby Humu!

Making sand

I don't know what this is but I've seen several of them

Life is good

I picked up J at mala wharf about 2pm.   He had a very nice day but he wasn't interested in bringing a camera so no photos!  He admitted later that he should have brought it.   He saw the pyramid butterfly fish, a glimpse of an octopus. They found a huge pod of dolphins!  The way back was pretty bumpy.

Some friends of ours were on Maui at the same time of our days in West Maui.  They've been on island many times but never to Mama's Fish House.  That had to be corrected!    We hadn't been there for dinner in ages so it was a treat for us too.  R was feeling much better but not up for an expensive meal (just in case).

Mmmmm Mamas!  It was as gorgeous as ever!

We got there at 7 for our 7:15 reservation as the evening was waning into night.

We were eated one table away from window.  First up was a Mai Tai for me and some mango thing for J.

We shared a salad and for entrees J got a Mahi Mahi and for me a slowly cooked prime short ribs with Hamakua mushrooms.  I was in heaven.

For dessert we had to get the Polynesian Black Pearl.  Of course!

The food was perfect,  the service impeccable.  The dinner, not priceless!  But you've got to splurge once in a while.

It was a long drive home.  Maui does a good job with road reflector markers that helps.  We tried not to brag too much about our meals to R when we got home.

Prepare for more fish pictures next!
